Perioperative Theatre Technology consists of competencies that an individual must achieve to provide services in a surgical-oriented or hospital mindset. It entails preventing nosocomial infections, providing technical services to the theatre team, maintaining the safety of patients and the theatre team, caring for theatre instruments, participating in provision of clinical services in operation theatre and executing administrative and managerial responsibilities peri- Operatively.
Duties of Peri-op Techs:
- Work in CSSD as a sterilizing technician
- Participate in Peri-operative technical services
- Manage Operation Theatre resources or a surgical section/unit
- Supervise operation of POTT activities/ POTT administrative duties.
- Technologists can serve as anesthetist assistants
- Operate operating theatre machines and equipment and link them to Biomed department
- Support surgeons/nurses in surgical clinical services in hospital
- Prepare or set up operating theatre room
- Provide first aid services / CPR and other related emergency care services
- Participate in health promotion services and programs in the community
- .Undertake sales & marketing of operation theatre instruments/equipment
- Any other duty related to POTT such as marketing surgical implants/instruments and equipments among others
